TruthWalleyes
What lakes that are often fished, can also be hunted? Can you hunt any of these for fall waterfowl?: (Ballantyne, George, Lura, Mills...all blue Earth county)(Rays, Fish, Emily, German, Greenleaf, Jefferson, Sabre...LeSueur County) Some of the above lakes i have not been to, so it may be an obvious NO HUNTING due to residential. Lets hear about the lakes that you can hunt. I've never duck hunted on a lake that is also used for fishing, so i am a little curious to hear everyones thoughts on lakes that you can hunt, but maybe shouldn't due to boat traffic. Or, some General etiquette practices for lakes that are both hunted and fished... Looking to expand my duck/geese waters. Thanks in advance. dan z
you can hunt most of the lakes in le suer county I have hunted the jefferson chain,Lura and mills to name a couple that you mentioned. I dont like giving out big water spots becuase there are only a few places to hunt on them. And if I tell you then I wont have spots to hunt. TruthWalleyes
And if I tell you then I wont have spots to hunt. Sorry Thanks dan, Lets avoid lake spots for everyones sake...So, Etiquette?Heres a scenario:Decoys set-up 1 hr before sunrise, come sunrise a boat launches to fish. They begin to cast shorelines headed in your direction...Or they are headed in the opposite direction...I would think alerting them to your position would be best via a duck/goose call, or flashing a light(if dark enough)?Anybody had an experience with hunting a lake while someone else is fishing? Gordie
yea TW had it happen last year on my lake and the guy didnt care either even thou he knew we were there and a flock of geese came buy and we could not shoot because he was in the same dirrection as the geese so once they were buy and he was not in harms way we got to shoot but only got one goose and that guy left soon after. and BTW you can set decoys 2 hrs before sunrise now OH yea had some guys casting muskey lures thru the decoys once on mille lacs but it didnt seem to matter to them they were fishing so had to sit and watch them fish and we couldnt shoot at ducks. they knew we were there but thats the game we play I guess
dan z
If there are boats in the area I just watch them fish until they get out the area, I do pay attention to the fisher people, I will always waite till the fisher men are out of line of fire. however when they pass by and a duck flies near me I will shoot and usually scare the [PoorWordUsage] out of the fisherman, I have every right to hunt were legal. Its my choice to hunt big water and I do miss a few ducks/geese do to fisherman.
cutter08
As long as they are not in the line of fire im shooting. They are not dumb. Fishermen know its duck season.

TruthWalleyes
Silly Wabbit 2 Hrs before sunrise...and about 5 minutes before shooting hours there's always a latecomer cruis'n right past my decoys and sets up 100yds away. lol -But that shouldn't happen on big water Right Most of the lakes around here i can think of 1 or two spots that you can hunt on them each. Anyone here gotten to the lake too late and had to go home because there isn't enough room? Or, got out there early only to get crowded by another hunter? The_Duckslayer
OH yea had some guys casting muskey lures thru the decoys once on mille lacs but it didnt seem to matter to them they were fishing so had to sit and watch them fish and we couldnt shoot at ducks. they knew we were there but thats the game we play I guess If you can get a CO there in time that would be a ticket for hunter harassment! I hunt on a lake that gets fished as well and if they get to close, like right in front of me, I remind them that if some ducks should happen by we WILL be shooting live ammo at them (the ducks). Usaually they will mosey on pretty quick after that. Good luck to all! Be safe out there. Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo
