Black Screen

I have a lab top that has XP, and when i turn it on, all i get is a black screen, with a cursor blinking in the top left corner?

What do you think i should do! Should i put my resteration desks in and try to start over?

I would start by unplugging it and removing the battery. That will completely power it down. Then put the battery back in and try starting it. If won't start then try the recovery/restoration disks.

You could also try to start it up without the battery in. Just had a buddies laptop this weekend that the battery was shorting out the whole laptop.

i took battery out, and plugged it in, and that didnt work.

What brand of laptop is it BNS?

Sounds like the black screen of death

Do a google on "black screen of death" and you will find some helpful fixes.

If you have not backed up all your files, the restoration disc with most likely work, but everything will be gone. I would try to fix it first.

i really dont care about the files. Its a work computer, and there isnt anything on there that i really need! I can get it all back off the network ya know!

Put that recov disc in the drive, shut down and restart. Should be somthing on the disc package that tells you what to hold down at start up. Like the "C" or "R" key. Maybe nothing. Once the disc boots up, just follow the menus to system restore to factory settings.

If you can not get the CD drive to boot up upon startup, let us know.

I would go ahead with the restore. At this point it would seem you nothing to lose.
