Well after a trying in twice with a bow in montana, your poor SD goats are going to get it with a rifle.

Was wondering what is a decent goat in your area, and are there lots around. We are going the second rifle season and are staying in Lemmon and hunting that zone. Just trying to get a feel for what it will be like out there. Thanks in advance.

Lee, from what I'm hearing from Harding county ranchers is that the goat numbers are waaaaaaay down. GF&P has reported the same thing but, saying that the herd may be 50% down with kid numbers low. I'll be in that area also during the 2nd season. A decent goat?? 14 inches. 16 is considered hangers. Wanna see a really BIG horned one? Gimme your email addy and I'll send ya a pic of one.

Paul's right.. I hear the winter tore them up last year. I don't goat hunt, but my goat huntin buddies say the same..

Thanks guys. We had a buddy check some stuff out there, he also hunted ND for goats. He saw some, but managed to get one. Hope we bump into a few.

Lee, I just talked to a rancher in Harding Co. just south of Crook. He said there was still 6 inches of snow on his place. I know he's way west of where you are going but the weather pattern from the other day looked like it was headed thru Lemmon. Our forecast looks chilly. Looks like some 16-18 degree nites towards the end of the week.

Do you know were the deer hit hard as well in that area or just the goats? Snow again already? I remember a few years ago having snow up to the roof of my truck antelope hunting. SD weather always amazes me.

Hey Lee how did you do? we went out there for the 1st weekend, very pathetic, we had a couple guys who stayed in the cabin next to us at the park and they hunted the zone south of us and saw tons of goats; we saw 2 bucks saturday and sunday; we only had doe tags.
