dan z
pretty much every lake, river, slough that has a public access. as long as there is emrgent(sp) weeds to hide a boat you can hunt. I have sat under trees for cover also. there is no open water layout style hunting in MN. robo ducks can be used most any were becuase there is usually private land touching the shorline. there is a big gray area in waterfowl hunting it just depends on the mood of the warden some days there great and nice and other days they will search your boat and cite you for everything that they can find wrong
Tannor396
So how do you find if it is legal to discharge a firearms? City limits thing?Examples:I would guess that there is spots on Tonka that it might be legal?I would guess that Calhoun would not be legal?Mississippi river would be legal where? Not looking for peoples spots just want to be in the right.... goblueM
inside city limits would not be legal, but different areas might have different codes as far as firearm dischargefor example, you can hunt inside st cloud city limits if you're in an agricultural zoned area if i recall correctlymy theory is if you are at all uneasy or uncomfortable/not sure if you're legal, you probably aren't

Dave S
Call your city, and local CO... Dont take peoples word for it over the internet, too much at risk.. Best advice a guy can give. Contact your local branches of Law Enforcement i.e. Conservation Officer, City Police, Sheriff's Dept. Each branch of local Gov't can implement their own restrictions of where you can/cannot shoot. matt f
Good advice to check the local government ordinances.Hugo just passed a new ordinance that banned the discharge of a firearm on Bald Eagle Lake. I am sure there will be a few situations out there next week. Its really nice how they publicise that information. My brother and i hunt bald eagle a couple time a year or can i say use to now A couple people that lived on the lake called the sheriff on us last year saying we where within 500 ft of there houses. When the sheriff showed up we showed him our GSP and that we where 600 ft from shore and another 500 ft from her house. When your hunting on a highly populated lake you need to know the ordinances because there are alot of people out there that get off on trying to get sportsman like us in trouble with the law. Will
I live a half a block from the north end of Bald Eagle lake and I find it very disturbing that the city council decided that it is best for everyone to not allow hunting there! On a side note, one of the council members (Becky P) lives on the north end. I personally have never hunted out there ( I have other "go to spots") but that is not the point. They tried this [PoorWordUsage] last year just north of here, but it did not pass ( i believe due to a petition, that i signed by the way). The unmittigated gall! Who do these people think they are? Where does this stop? There is a point on private land out there, i wonder if they are banned from hunting as well? Thank God we have elected officials who know what is best for the rest of us! cutter08
You know, I wonder if we can contact the DNR and see if they could help the hunters out on this one. After all it is a public lake and everyone should be able to use it as long as you stay within the law. And the people on the lake are going to be the first ones to complain about all the birds [PoorWordUsage] on there shore line. God that lake is going to be stacked with birds this year. Tannor396
Thanks guys for all the help to this point. After checking with the CO this is what I got:"The best way to start is to check out lakes that are out of city limits and have public access. Cities don't normally allow hunting. "Kinda the help I have gotten over the years, I know they have bigger fish to fry this time of year, might try to nail someone down at a sports show or fair to find out as much at I can for the future, otherwise going to play is really safe this year....
