River-runner,

Bob Walker is a fantastic trainer specializing in labs, he is down in your area not to far from mankato. His company is pro dog trainers. If you want his number, Email me at [email protected] and I can give it to you. He has trained 4 dogs for me and they have all turned out great. He has also trained a buddy of mines dog who owns a goose hunting lodge in Sask. and he said bob is the best he has seen.

I won't be needing the number now, i am thinking about getting a dog in about one year and i just want to start doing some research so i can get a good healthy pup!

Make sure whatever breeder you go with has all health certifications for the parents of the litter! OFA (hips/elbows), EIC, CNM, CERF, PRA. Not to say they don't have them, but some of the breeders listed don't have info related to all of these certs on their site.

DB makes a good point....don't limit yourself to just Mankato. You would be removing a lot of options on excellent dogs if you do.

Hands down, check out Charlie Tolkien with Goldberry Labs in Eagle Lake. My male in my avatar is one of Charlie's and is currently with him in Canada at a conf show. Charlie does not just produce show dogs, he is out to produce sound dogs. Conformation is ensuring a healthy and physically sound dog, and can his dogs hunt, of course they can, anyone who puts a show dog into that category has no clue what is going on with todays labs physcially. All of the health clearences are there with him and he has produced numerous dogs taking titles at conf, field trial, and hunt tests. Check out his HSOforum at goldberry.net. Give him a call, he is a short drive away from you so stop over there, he would be happy to help you out.
