Lowrance LMS 350

NPG

Question

I just purchased a boat and it came with 2 lowrance LMS 350's. I was wondering how out dated these units are, or are they still a good unit compared with todays units. I know with HDS and side imaging on todays units it obsolete, but compared to todays gps/sonar combos. Thanks

The sonar on the LMS-350 is good. It's not color, but it's good (okay, maybe even very good). And I like the backlight for use at night.

Where you will really be behind the times is with the GPS functionality. Newer units have better receivers that track more satellites and update more frequently. The 350A has a good chartplotter and some nice options in how you can customize your views ...... but it has no mapping capabilities at all. A new unit will have a color screen and will take LakeMaster and/or Navionics map cards allowing you to view the lake map on your gps, and show your current position in relation to the structure. You can't do any of that with the 350A. And the new units have SD card slots which you can use to back-up and transfer waypoints --- with the 350A you're looking at manual recording and entering if you want to transfer or backup your waypoints.
