Battery Question

Recommended Posts

So I visited my sled in storage today smile

Anyways, I forgot to disconnect my battery this spring and found it to be dead today. I bought the battery new last year in November.

I disconnected and brought it home to try and charge. I hooked up a 2/4/6 amp charger and got a fault light for any of the three amperages I tried.

So, is my battery shot or do I need a different charger? Would it be better to pull start the sled and let it charge that way?

I don't want to have to buy a new battery and don't think I should have to every year.

This is the charger I'm trying to use:

The charger you are using is computerized and may not work if the battery is to low. I had the same problem so I used an old charger I had and it brought the battery back. The new charger then also worked. If you do it too many times the battery may not come back if at all. Good luck.

Well I guess I’ll have to try and locate the receipt.

I purchased it a NAPA and they are usually pretty good about that.

I don’t have an “old” style charger to try that. Just for the heck of it, I tried hooking up a flasher battery charger and that was useless too.

I don’t have EFI, so you would think there might be some juice left in it.

I was actually wondering about the heated grips on my sled. I’m sure I leave those things on all the time. I just assumed that they were only on when the ignition was at the “on” position.

Is it possible that they are on a hot lead? They are factory installed and it is a Polaris Classic Touring.

yeah I don't get it. Mine is an '03 as well.

Guess I just need to take it out each year and maintain charge it. That would be what a smart person would do. Or would a smart person not buy a sled in the first place? laugh
