Rod Bags

Recommended Posts

Hey Mary I finally got those rod bags made! I found black rip-stop nylon on sale for $1.00 per yard so went with that plus some velcro for closures. Cost me $5.16 for 4 bags and I have material left over! They turned out pretty neat. So what have you been up to? Any water down there yet?

Hi ghotierman: Actually I kind of just made up one. I measured the rods and reels and needed 7' in length by about 8" to cover the reels - be sure to measure the largest reel - that was my first mistake. I laid down newspaper and made them 2" wide at bottom 8" at top (sort of like a v with a flat bottom) and tapered it down to there having the 8" extend as far as the length of the handle and reel on the rod. I then turned down the 8" side of one piece about 4" and put facing behind it and stitched it down so that this ended being about 1-1 1/2" wide. I then put this against the other piece (remember to put it 4" down). Then I sewed the pieces together (right sides inside) Turn this inside out - then took the other 8" side and put facing on it and stitched it down to form a flap over the first piece. I added a spot of velcro to both sides and that was all there was to it. Took about 15 minutes to make the first one and about 5-8 minutes to make the ones after that. Hope this makes sense to you any questions just ask. I could probably draw up something and fax it to you.

Phyl, That sounds great. I've been sewing some but it has been for curtains for our new house. We have been so busy cleaning painting and getting it ready to move in to that I haven't had time to do anything but wish I was fishing and back up at our little camper by the lake. Just got done painting all the kitchen cupboards yesterday and our next big progect is to sand and redo the wood floors. It will be a couple of weeks yet before we get the time to get out there to fish. Good Luck on the bags that sounds like a good idea. Maybe you could sell them.

Hi Mary! I was wondering what happened to you. Painting and doing wood floors does not sound like fun but it sure will be nice when it is done = hopefully by May 12th! I would never have enough time to make and sell bags but I really like mine. Sometimes I just amaze myself! grin.gif Hopefully we are going to get the floor in the boat today that he was suppose to do all winter. Then he goes back to work and gets stuck working nights on 12 hour shifts. Needless to say he has not been much fun. So after taking the 2 dogs to the vet for shots - one of which does not know what a leash is - we are off to some real fun. Take care and good luck with that house.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
