Best Bucktail Rod

Recommended Posts

I'm in the market for a new bucktail rod and would like to get some input from you guys on what you prefer. Ideally it would be able to toss Super Girls to Double Showgirls. Length at least 8- leaning toward the Compre. What's your choice?

9' Thorne Bros H Predator handles cowgirls with ease as well as DC-8's

if you want to spend $385, go for it. Compre like you said would be a good choice, affordable and if you can spend the extra $50-$60 I'd get the 8' Heavy St.Croix Premier rod.

I got a compre, like it but I also got the okuma evx 8' and the evx 8'6" telescoping and love them, at most theyre 119.00 so about the same price imo better rod. croix has the slingbade, but that big$ I throw 8/10's with no prob- good luck imo is dumb to have a rod for just dcg's unless you throw them all day or just want to have a rod rigged and ready to go fine but to each his own-

I'd try and fall somewhere in the middle of what's been suggested. Calcutta Inshore series casting rods are great i've found, thorne has the butt extended which makes for effortless casting. They run about $180, i've got one in a heavy x-fast tip 8 foot you can try next weekend if you make it out.

I've also got a compre that's pretty much identical, you can throw them back to back and see the difference. My only complaint is the compre is a heavy rod. Great for the price, but they are heavy and it can make a difference over a long day.

I'd go with the Slingblade or the Predator. Yes they are expensive - But worth every cent!

There is a reason why they are that expensive!

Get one of those and you will end every post about rods saying "This is the best rod I have ever owned!" Rather than, "Well I settled on a .... It's okay"
