Dogs and mushrooms ?

7 posts in this topic

We really had a weird experience on Saturday with our 1 yr old lab. We were fishing on the river by Red Wing and while the dog was fine all morning, when we took him to shore the second time my son saw him get into something by a tree.

Within 10 minutes he was staggering in the boat and almost fell down. He also had a bobbing motion to his head. We took him to shore again (different area) and he seemed fine. Back in the boat and again he almost fell over and had a weird side to side motion.

We headed home thinking that he had gotten into something toxic and when we stopped to check on him on the road he wouldn't even get out of his kennel and just looked at us like he was in pain.

We went to the emergency hospital in AV and they wanted to give him Xrays etc. Something about a how he was hunched over and that he could have been injured jumping into the boat. (actually made me feel guilty like I had beaten him or something)

No diagnosis as there was no chunks of anything in his vomit but they gave him Morphine and wanted to keep him overnight. We kept him home last night and today he is running around like a wild man--no need for the pain Meds that they gave him !!

Any ideas ? My wife thinks inner ear or that he got boatsick,

I am leaning on the mushroom theory as he has been in a boat since he was 8 wks old. Either way, the checkbook is lighter today.

Yea that is so hard to keep our buds from doing that stuff, I catch my dogs trying to eat all kinds of stuff. I say they are worse to keep track of than kids. Hope things have worked out for your dog.

My male lab is a garbage can. He eats anything that looks or smells like it could taste good.

Probably some shrooms. Just needed to work their way out of his system.

    •     Free market Republicans????  HAHAHA,!!!!
    • Please God, make Keith Ellison the head of the DNC
    •   Doubtful we would have seen it by now. The bigger issue has always been possible collusion between Trump's campaign and Russian opps to influence the election - and who knew what and who ordered what. That's the big fish. You just have to be patient, all in due time Uncle Bill.
    •   I didn't waste a vote on him..   The garbage can had as much a chance of winning.   You owe the brave voters of Trump a great debt of gratitude for saving this country from hillary..   That's one big beer you owe the "trumpers"...   Bigly....
    • Picked up some track at FF and put it on the floor and ramp. Also added a couple sections of e track on the wall to hang tie downs etc. Doesn't look like I'm going to get any use out of it this year but will be ready for next year. Plan on taking out track on floor in summer as it can get slippery and going to put in a couple wheel chocks for motorcycles.
    • July 2016   This was the first time 3 of us had ever been to the ocean and the first time any of us had been to the Pacific. Man, that water was cold!
    • There's a blessing on the ground.  It's coming down.  It's coming down
Snow pains on the motor veinsSnow Days
Keeps your business on the ground
      It's coming down
      Slow day for the teacher
And her wheels are spinning now
On account of winter, Mrs. Braintree
      All the roads are closed
And the stores are loot for vagabonds
      It's coming down
      Go home!

      It's coming down
      Snow lays on the chainfields
There's a blessing on the ground
      It's coming down
If your lanes are crammed with children
There's a blessing on your town
On a lucky Monday, Mrs. Braintree
All your lanes are waxen silver
And the stores are loot for vagabonds
      It's coming down
Go home! Go home and take a snow day, Mrs. Braintree!

Mrs. Braintree, you're a chilly northern woman
Go home from yonder bus stop
Because there's a blessing on the ground
      Mrs. Braintree, it is written
When the snows come over Dixie
All the roads are closed and the stores are loot for vagabonds.

      It's coming down
      Snow lays on the chainfields
There's a blessing on the ground
      It's coming down
If your road's patrolled by children
There's no order to be found
On account of winter, Mrs. Braintree
      All the roads are closed
And the stores are loot for vagabonds
      It's coming down
Go home!   I think Reb lives next door to Mrs Braintree.  She's a chilly northern woman.
    •     I think he's actually you and delcecchi's hero, judging by the number of times you guys bring him up....
    •   So did you get a guarantee when we started and lost the war on drugs or is this your version of a double standard? I am saying here is a reasonable solution with the positives outweighing the negatives. This is especially true when compared to the current model that has never worked.   Benefits to ending the war on drugs.
      1. Huge savings enforcement and prison $$$ that can be used on treatment. 1 Trillion spent so far with no results.
      2. Police can focus their man hours on violent and other criminals. 82% of drug arrests are for possession. 3. Creating jobs and collecting taxes on drug sales. Imagine that save tax $$ on enforcement and increase revenue, win win. 4. The legit business model puts most of the dealers, gangs and cartels out of business. The very fact that drugs are illegal makes them expensive because of the risk involved, taking the money out of the black market essentially puts these people out business and that is a good thing. Keeping drug illegal keeps the money flowing their way and nothing we can do other than legalization will stop this.

Says the guy who wants to double down on 45 years of failed policy and poor judgment.
What is even more mind blowing is that free market republicans want to continue failed big gov policies at a huge cost to the taxpayers. We already have legal drugs from big pharm killing people in record numbers to go along with alcohol and tobacco deaths so it is not like we are venturing into unknown territory here.
