heat production...

Scoot

Question

I'm looking for a source of heat that will act somewhat like a hand warmer (the kind you open and shake- works based on a chemical reaction). I need it to be roughly shaped like a "C" battery and it must be a self-contained heating unit. Don't need a lot of heat, something comparable to a hand warmer. The lighter the better. Any ideas?

What about using the handwarmer material within the packet and putting it into a small container with lots of pin holes in it. Something the size of a 35mm film canister but made of metal or heat resistant plastic. The metal will probably get so hot you'll have to wrap it in rag and that will sufficant the chemical reaction.
