dirtking
You do not need to crush the rock to make it class 5 (MNDOT 3138) it just needs to meet class 5 gradation. Some specs will call for 100% crushed... But class 5 "could be" straight out of the bank. (I agree Gregg - most is run through a screen or crusher)I do agree that this will not pack up very well. I was on a road crew once in Eagan and we used sand and gravel class 5 and it was like trying to build a road on a billion marbles.
slurpie
Call Elton gravel south of atwater. And from this area i would consider pit run, cheaper and better than alot of class 5 from other areas.
hunter101
every county and twp in this area uses either screened or pit run gravel. depending on the pit. i know this for a fact. ive seen it, ive hauled it, and ive bladed it. ive been doing this for 25 years. styopa
I ordered class 5 to re gravel my driveway and it looks nothing like the class 5 we got when we made it in 2016. This class 5 looks like a pile of sand with about 10-20% crushed rock. Not sure if I have much of a choice now, with 11 yards in my driveway but to try to spread it down. I feel like this is all going to wash away in a winter or 2. Any advice?
