Boat Insurance

It's that time of year to renew the boat policy, and I'm looking to save a buck or two. Anyone have any suggestions on low cost Boat Insurance along with reliable claims service? I'm not looking to make a claim but it's been to my experiance that just when you think you'll never make a claim that's about the time you will.

I've heard the Boat US place (not sure if I can say the name) is cheap, anyone have any claim experiance with them?

Try Boat US. They have best rates that I found. They provide property loss, theft and med pay like the rest of the companies do, but also include boat towing, trailer towing & fuel spill. They also offer a fixed damage amount policy for few extra bucks.

I had Angler Advantage, and it was good. Never needed a claim, but heard good things from those who did. It is also a good option for tourney anglers.

I just switched to AmFam, who I have house and all else with, as the price was considerably better (but I have lots of stuff through them, so getting a quantity discount, and now my umbrella covers the boat as well, a good thing for no extra charge...).

Either place, and probably many more, give a discount for safety courses. I took a Coast Guard class about 14 years ago, and it saved me I think 20% (maybe 15%...?) Another good reason for folks to think about taking a Coast Guard class. I did learn a lot too, and I had been boating for 15+ years before I took the class. Well worth the one (long) day of classes. The one day can save lots of % in boat ins. premiums over a lifetime... and maybe somebody's life some day in an emergency.
