Iron Cowboy
Anyone tow an 18ft #2000 lb boat (or anything else that heavy) with one of these? If so how does it work for you? It has a 230hp engine and It has the tow package with oil cooler and frame mounted hitch, the owners manual says it has a max tow rating of #3500 lbs. Sounds do-able on paper Just looking for some "real world" experiences. If a guy takes it easy im pretty sure would be o.k...wondering what pulling out of the lake on an incline would be like think that would be its biggest issue. Charley
The brakes could be a issue. Also the suspension system. Front and rear end.
CJH
It probably would be an issue on some steep inclines. I would definitely keep it to short distances. Brakes will be an issue.
marine_man
Not sure what year you have, but if it's 2000 - 2006 or so I'd be real hesitant.Odyssey's in those years are somewhat known for transmission problems and towing further aggravates the issue.marine_man
Jeremy airjer W
The insides of the torque converter where teflon coated. The teflon would start to loose its bond with the metal and start plugging up the screen on the O.D. solenoid. Honda has extended the coverage on some of these models to 100k with some descretion on vehicles over that mileage.
Iron Cowboy
Thanks guys, It is a 1999 but did have the trans. replaced under warranty at 75K. Got 200K on it now and thought if it held out this long maybe it would fine for short towing trips but does give me hesitation. I wouldnt consider it if my F-150 (1997 4.6 119K) could be counted on to start every time but it only runs when it wants to and im tired of it. I have had it in the shop a few times and they cant find whats wrong. It will at random go to start and the fuel pump wont turn on ( no hummm before turning over) I have had to have it towed twice and once it gets to the shop will start just fine for the next couple days then a week or so later will leave me stranded doing the same thing. (they Tested pump and the pressure is good) and since it doesnt throw a code they dont know what to fix and dont want to spend big coin fixing things it might not be. Like I said really sick of it. Jeremy airjer W
Just put a pump in it and get it over with. Its not like the one thats in it won't go bad if it isn't bad so your not really wasting any money and your at least on your way to a good start on getting the issue resolved. Or get it over to me and I'll have it figures out by the end of the week!

Thats sort of what I was thinking but the tech told me theres a lot of other things it could be as far as relays or sensors or electrical contacts etc. If thats not the case and a new pump would probably do the trick whats the ballpark for cost? Thanks again.
Jeremy airjer W
Something else you can do. Get a rubber mallet (the bigger the better, it is a ford!) next time it doesn't start listen carefully to see if you can hear the pump running. If you can't then wack the bottom of the fuel tank right under the fuel pump while somebody cranks it. If it fires up you on your way to drop the tank ville! We get a lot of crank no starts towed in. You would be surprised at how many start up as soon as they roll of the flatbed. A lot of those end up getting fuel pumps. It's not a hundred percent guarantee that will fix it but like I said its going to fail at some point, theirs no doubt about that, so why not give it a shot? Jeremy airjer W
Yup! you don't have to kill it, just rattle its cage a little!(I'll post a pic of my "ford dead blow rubber mallet" when I get a chance!)
