LEFT BLINKER

Hey guys i have a 1996 ford ranger and when i turn on my left turn signal it will blink until i hit the brake. When the brake is on the blinker is just on and not flashing. The right blinker works fine. Is it just a bad switch??? any other ideas??

I would check the rear bulb.

and/or bad ground for the rear lights on that side?

Ha, I thought I typed that exact thing with the ground, but must have forgot that.

do you guys know where the ground would be? i don't think it is the bulb because the bulb lights up when the blinker is on.

You would be surprised what kind of problems a bulb can cause! At least inspect the bulb and sockets. Make sure the metal tangs aren't burnt up and the socket isn't corroded.

The ground for it is located behing the left front cowl panel, the drivers side kick panel. The panel that the drivers left foot would hit if you tipped it to the left.

One more thought, if this has a trailer harness, unplug it under the rear bumber and plug the factory connectors back in. The trailer harness will have a t-connector that just connects between the factory connector.

I don't know Ford, but a Chevy has a control module in the tail light assembly that goes bad. I had an off-speed blink and the lights were on but very dull.

Sounds like you need to flush and change your blinker fluid. that might do the trick
