TPMS ?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2007 impala and my Tire Press Monitors have been replaced once in two of my rims, and twice in the other 2 rims.

the unit that reads the sensors has been replaced, and now the other day another sensor went bad! I wanted to disconnect them completely and just check my own tires on a regular basis but they cant do that as it affects other systems. I'll take the manual psi reader over electronic TPMS ANYDAY!

I just completed a TPMS training course and for the life of me I cannot figure out what other "system" it would affect. I do know that they use the door lock module/antenna to recieve the signal but as far as a bad sensor or the light being on and causing issues?????

I would ask them to give you specifics and/or talk to a tech. The service writer guys are looking for the sale, the techs are usually happy to educate and share whats really up!!

With that being said the TPMS when working correctly is a wonderful safety feature! However if you are like me and can feel the difference in your vehicles ride when your tires are 6 to 8 pounds low, and you understand that tire pressure changes with air temperature and you frequently check for proper tire inflation than is it really necessary? If people are still driving around with low tires and the light on is this new "safety" feature doing what is supposed to do?

4WE, any thoughts on the TPMS "Interfering" with other systems?

I agree they are nice when they work properly. But i have been getting a straight out failure, to where they show two dashes on the display instead of numbers. Now that i have one not working, all 4 do not work.

They do send signal to the same thing that reads my keyless entry/remote start signal, because that was replaced once before also.

I check the pressure usually once every two weeks with the pen-looking tire pressure guage.

talk about frustrated, i do put alot of miles on, the car now has 74,000 miles on it but i do not think that 6 tire pressure monitors in 74,000 miles is "normal wear and tear"

I just did some research on this, it looks as though not fixing it wont interfere with anything else, but there isnt a way to dissarm, or remove a bulb from this system since it displays it through the information center. The way I see it is you have 3 options, live with it the way it is, get it repaired again, or trade it in. I would pick the first or the last option wink

Something is definitely not right. The life expectancy of the sensor should be a lot longer than that. I would also check for aftermarket sensors. You may be able to save a few bucks. Any shop can install them. You don't necessarily need a tool to relearn there positions either so you could also save some bucks there and do it yourself. As of now if its just a walk around relearn we do not charge to do it.

This may or may not be of any help or your problem but, I was having an intermittent problem with one TPM on my wifes car. It would come and go. I never really took the time to diagnose because it was intermittent. Then I started having a similar problem with the left side signal lights, working then not working until they finally quit. After repeated attemps to find the problem with that I finally stumbled onto it when my neighbor touched a relay in the power distribution center under the hood. He asked what it was and as he touched it my signals started working. I though it was a bad relay but after switching it with another the problem persisted. Each time you put pressure on it they would work. I ended up removing the entire fuse block and pulled all of the harnesses off to check for corrosion. Everything was clean so I checked for bent or loose pins and reassembled it. Now everything has been working fine for 3 or 4 months. Without a schematic, I honestly dont know if the TPMS runs through any of those connectors or not, but possibly just disturbing the harness may have made the difference, or if its just a coincidence. It just bugs me a bit that I dont really know for sure what the problem was, but for now I'm happy cuz everthing is working! smile

You are complaining about your Chevy driving you to the poorhouse in repairs, yet you dis the highest quality automaker in the world right now. Ford has higher customer satisfaction and lower repair costs than Toyota and Honda right now.

And it is the only domestic auto company to say no thanks to bailout money.

I was just messin' with ya. My dad owned Ford trucks for probably 40+ years, and never, and I mean never had a problem with any of them. In 2004 for some odd reason he bought a new Avalanche. Has had a ton of trouble with it. I have no idea why he switched, and I give him some junk for doing it.

yeah, i've heard of horror stories with every manufacturer. I know someone who has the same car as me, mine is a ltz, hers is a ls. both have the TPMS. She's never had a problem. I do.

Guy i worked with had a 2008 ford f-150. Went through 3 rear differential rebuilds in the first year, then traded for a chevy.

Every manufacturer makes a good product, sometimes out of the thousands produced someone gets a lemon. It unfortuneatly happened to be me this time with my car, my truck on the other hand has 225,000 miles on it, doesnt use ANY oil, and i just did the fuel pump, other than that the thing is indestructable (knock on wood)
