March Morson Reports

Recommended Posts

Had our 17th Annual Ice Fish trip. Not many things last that long, including several of the guys marriages! I own the trophy again!!

Fished Friday noon to 6 off of Mylies, drove the truck out where they had the fishing contest week before. It was really winidy so we tucke din behind point,,, Caught nothing for nearly four hours then wham, three of us caught about 60 walleyes between 4-6 p.m.... biggest was 19 inches although most were very small, 8-12 inchers, but kept our 6 eaters

for dinner.. also caught a burbott, two tullibes and a 10-pound pike... that was fun!

On Saturday we didn't get out until about 1 p.m. Tried a reef west that usually produces but it was slow.. we only caught five walleyes all day and left at sunset.. not sure why they never came in... heard a report of another group about 2 miles away that caught a ton, but we never heard or saw another soul that day.. it is amazing how that lake can swallow people up.... it's fun to fish with no one else around!

That might be the last trip of winter although I'm toying with the idea of a quick 2-day trip for the Big Island fishing derby on the 21st...

The snow is incredibly smooth, even I wasa going fast on the snow machines! That could change, though... LOTW is supposed to get a double whammy of snow today and again Tuesday night... blizzard conditions.

Take care all

Went and fished Miles Bay with BDude's dad and can say that by next weekend all snow will be gone unless it snows. We lost a foot in Baudette on Monday alone. Ran 20 miles on little snow but 1-2 inches of water on top of the ice.

was up yesterday for a derby which i happily donated to but had fun catching fish. the best bite was from about 10am til 1pm or so then in the evening we tried a different spot and the bite was good from about 7 til dark. earlier in the day a little bit of everything was caught, tulibee, crappie, sauger, perch, a few northerns and quite a few smallmouth with the biggest being 3.5 lbs. All the bigger fish caught for the derby were live release which i thought was good. as far as getting around, you could drive anywhere even cars were making their own path. I think a snowmobile would have been your best bet if you planned on any distance. We did see a ATV heading in off the lake and he wasnt moving very fast. didnt have to go far out of Morson for our fish. dead or live bait both worked good. couldnt ask for a nicer day for the derby with lots of people showing up. Sounds like rain in the forecast. lots of water ( not deep ) and wet snow on top to keep sleds running cool. fun weekend.
