trying to figure out gas motor or electric motor for kayak

Isn't the whole idea of kayaks paddling? If not, I'd say 50 hp merc 4-stroke should push you pretty decent.

I think it depends on what you're going to do with it and where you're going to go... some lakes only allow electric motors, so that might be an advantage.

I'd say you need to figure out where you're going to go with it, how often you're going to use it, and what weighs and costs more, and make your decisions based on that.
