Strikemaster auger blades - Reconditioned vs new

Mnfisher

Question

I just bought a 2nd pair of reconditioned strikemaster blades. (trading in my old pair). I had said, never again, after my first purchase, but was desperate and didn't want to drive 25 miles to buy new. They have gone noticeable duller, both times, after just a few holes. Anyone have any comments, similar problems and does anyone know of someone who can do a good job? Thanks!

If you had bought new would you be making this post ?

I had the same bad luck as you. New blades last me about 5 to 10 tanks of gas or more and the one and only set of used maybe 2 tanks. Even if you get half the life of new blade you need to save 50 percent off the price of new and your time must be worth nothing for the savings to pay off.

New blades cut faster and are easier on the operator.

The most important part of ice fishing is the ability to cut a whole in the ice. There are plenty of other purchases you make where you can save money. I would buy new then next time you go fishing you can relax and won't have to worry if the blades will work.

Thanks for the information guys. Hookey, I think you're right. If I had bought new, I wouldn't be posting this question. Surface Tension; I sent you an email because I knew you sharpened blades. Do you know anyone that knows how to sharpen strikemaster properly?

A machine shop might be your best bet. I have used strikemaster blades sharpened at a machine shop that cut better than new ones.
