New to Forum, Questions about bikes

I have a Trek 800 Mountain bike. I like my bike but after riding with friends who have Hybrid bikes, I am beginning to think I need one of those instead. My bike is not the best for long distances.

These Hybrids seem to be super expensive. Any idea on a decent, but more affordable brand? I cant wait to get back out on the trails this summer!

I purchased a "Specialized" Cross roads bike this past August and I absolutely love it. It rides so smooth and long distances are no problem. The day after I purchased this bike I rode a trail in Worthington Mn that was about 7 - 8 miles long then went to Sioux Falls and went all the way around the city on their trail which is about 20 miles. No problems at all... The bike cost me about the 4 bills area but it is worth every cent...

I guess if I am going to plan on spending 400$+ on a bike, I better start saving...

It's soooo worth it though. I used to buy my bikes from Target and last year got a bike by K2 from REI on sale. It was such a great idea.

Now, I just have to get it out without busting the brakes again frown.

I think all you need to do is bring your friends to a gravel trail and stay off the tar. Your bike realy shines on gravel. They'll have so much fun in the dirt they'll want a mountain bike.

You get what you pay for.... I got a trek 2300 road bike and biking is so much more enjoyable. If you go for long distance you will notice how much fresher you will feel after riding a good bike. Go to a bike shop not a box store and take test rides and you will instantly feel the difference.

I agree with Yakfisher. You could go to slicks... they would help a lot and be less costly compared to buying a brand new bike. Then you just switch out the tires when you hit the dirt again. A good bike isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for (components, weight, etc). Just do your homework. Hopefully the recovery from surgery is fast so you can bike this season! Good luck.
