just under ice?

I have used tip-up for a few years and have placed the sucker just below the ice and just off bottom. Which do you guys feel is best?

Depends. When I was living up north, there was a lake that was hit hard for crappies, all the fish were coming in 35 fow, right on bottom. When they were released, alot of the fish died. I was looking down the hole one time, and saw a monster pike swim just under the ice. Next time i was out i brought a bunch of decoy-size suckers with and caught a mess of big pike, about a dozen in the 35-40" range. I was setting the suckers about 1' under the ice. Most of the time, though, I go about 4-6' off bottom.

I run 1just under the ice 1-2 ft and I run 1 at 4-5 foot off the bottom cause fish are always looking up.

this last week i have speared 5 fish that came in just under the ice and then pointed down at the decoy.

i think the baitfish are running under the ice eating the dirty water that is running through the ice.
