Ice anchors

The Clam model is the real deal...a very smart system. Ideal for pop-up tents and late ice when wind gets to be a problem for any shack. I like the safety factor built into them, the pick's serve to rescue you if need be and as a sled tow handle...and the hole cleat function...like I said a darn smart system.

Gander stocked them, sold out here in Fargo now, other stores may have them in stock yet, worth a call. They just went on sale recently too. wink

You can make your own easily.

Just pick up 2 peices of 1" square alum. tubing about 12" long. Drill a hole thru them about 2" off center, (so that they hang in a vertical position when tied to your tie-down ropes.) This is done so you can retrieve them from the holes in the ice easily when you leave.

Drill a hole on each end of your portable outside of the house, drop the anchors thru the ice and pull up until they wedge under the ice and then tie off to your portable on two corners.

To remove just drop back down a little and pull back up thru the holes slowly.

On really cold days it is a good idea to make sure your anchor holes are kept from freezing shut solid!

You could probably use sched.40 plastic pipe for this also.???
