Refill of 1 lb propane tanks?

Anytime you mess with gas of any kind can be dangerous.

I have been filling them for a while now and you do have to be careful and follow the instructions. I fill outside (after 20LB tank is room temp.) IT DOES SPRAY OUT SOME GAS AFTER YOU TAKE THEM OFF.)

If you don't feel confident to fill them, Then don't, simply as that. (I know I have saved alot of money by filling them myself.) just my 2 cents

I did 6 of mine last night for the first time. After the 2nd one my nervousness went away as it seemed to work well. i did the first two in my garage, then decided to do the rest outside, as some does leak out when twisting the 1lb tank off. I kept a 3/4 full 20# tank in the basement for a day to warm up, and left the empty 1lb tanks outside in the cold. As far as i can tell they refilled completely. they are as heavy as a new store-bought 1lb tank.

the biggest thing to remember is keep the 20# tank and room temp, and the empty 1# at below freezing at the time of fill.

I did the soap test on the 1lb to assure that the valves did not leak, and none of them did! I will definitly keep doing this for my own personal use, not commercially!

OK, so I've decided I'm not going to do the refills myself. I have a box of empty 1#'ers...can I get them "professionally" refilled? Can a person simply throw them in the trash?

I doubt you can get them professionally refilled, i'll ask next time I go to my propane seller. As far as throwing them, i've talked with the sanitation guys here in Moorhead years ago. I confirmed that it was ok to throw them so long as they are empty. What a waste those things are, you would think they could re-use or recycle em.
