Garmin does though a garmin chip wont work in a lowrance and vise versa. I recomend if you have a gps on the boat sonar go with that brand so you only need 1 chip.

Personally I have a Garmin hand held and in the boat. I went this rout because of the ocasional bad reports on Lowrance and my own experiance with lowrance fishfinders.

Garmin on the other hand hear nothing but good.

Just a caution here - there are 2 types (at least :)) of "chips" now being used -- A "Data Card" and a "MicroSD Card". Whatever GPS unit you get - make sure you get a "data card" that will work with it. These new MicroSD cards are about the size of a dime, but they hold the same data as the other Lakemaster media.

Just bought a Garmin eTrex Legend HCx that uses the small card.

I had a buddy who had a Lowrance from his car that accepted the chip also which was sweeeeet, because when you wnated to pan the lake all you had to do is touch the screen and drag your finger instead of having to sit and scroll with the keypad and the screen was bigger too.... Thats my next toy

Garmin and Lowrance both accept LakeMaster chips, although you need a Garmin LakeMaster chip for the Garmin gps (that will be a micro SD chip) and you need a Lowrance LakeMaster or regular LakeMaster chip in SD format for the Lowrance gps.

Lowrance will also accept Navionics chips, which can be a benefit depending on where you're fishing.

You could also consider what units you have mounted in your boat, or will have, and consider map chip compatability with those units.

I have several of the most popular models of handheld mapping gps units here at Pro Fishing Supply. Map chips too. And shipping is free.
