R. Miller
Wasn't sure where to post this so I figured I'd throw it on my favorite forum. Do any of you have cabins/hunting shacks? I thought i'd leave my electric heat and water on this winter...maybe do some ice fishing(I usually turn it off after deer season)...well, the electric bill has been very expensive. I'm headed out there tomorrow to drain the pipes and turn the heat off. I always buy a few gallons of that anti freeze stuff for cabins...should I be looking into anything else this time of year? I'm planning on draining the pipes for an hour or two before turning off the heat and heading back to the cities. Any info is appreciated. Thanks. Eric Wettschreck
While you drain, don't forget to vent. Open up all your faucets in the bathrooms, shower, kitchen, etc. This will allow air to enter the piping more freely and let the water drain better. If you have a hot water heater, open the drain and pull the relief falve so it gets plenty of air. Keep your faucets open while you're gone.Put some RV antifreeze in your drains to keep the traps full so you don't come back to a very icky sewer gas smell.
