Good photos obviously don't happen by accident. Takes a bit of practice on your part and you NEED to have a buddy that obviously can run a camera. Like the photos Steve took of Deitz, just unbelievable difference between an amateur and someone who makes a living doing this.

Couple tips from me would be:

- Be prepared. I always have my camera in my jacket just in case.

- Pay attention to your surroundings & the sun. I try to position myself for a photo to take advantage of the light while not having something distracting in the background.

- Fresh fish. The faster you can take a picture of a fish, the better they will look. No one wants pics of dead, frozen snow covered fish. Half the fish below were released so the process is catch, quick photo, down the hole. Sometimes takes no more than 30 seconds depending on how close my camera guy is.

- I like to have a fishing rod, flasher, snowmobile, lure or whatever in the photo to help "tell" the story. I don't want all my fishing gear in a photo but a piece or two helps with the overall look of the photo.

- Get the other "junk" out of the photo. By junk I mean pop cans or bottles, bags of chips, scoopers, buckets, etc, etc.

- I have very few photos from inside a shack. Even if I caught the fish inside the shack, I'll go outside to take advantage of the surroundings and light.

- Its also really hard to take good photos of small fish. Its hard to make them appear "big". You can have a trophy bluegill but be disappointed in the photo because the fish looks "small". Learning how to hold and position fish takes practice, especially when they are flopping around.

It just takes time and practice. Keep shooting and you'll learn what works.

Here's a few of my favorites although I will admit they all could have been taken better... I really love the Laker photo and the catfish photo at the bottom. The cat photo was total spur of the moment, "Hey Chris hold that up this way" and there you go. Probably the smallest catfish I ever caught through the ice but the photo turned out great.

dietz tthem are some nnice fish the slabs look tasty and so does that big sunny how big was that smally? you prolly don't remember with all the fish you catch lol

Here are a few photos I got the other day on Mille Lacs. The pic with me holding the two perch was shot by Paul Waldowski. I should have held the fish just a bit farther from my body, cause they look small in the pic. They were both around 11.25". I was looking right into the sun hence the squinty eyes.

I’ll tell you a good tip I got off of one of these sites, and I always use it now. Turn your flash on even if it is an outdoor picture that doesn’t need a flash the reason being it brings out the color of the fish. I wish I had some examples but I am at work and I don’t have any pictures on this computer. Have any of you ever heard of this I think it really works. Try it some time take one with a flash and one without, see what you think.

Great pictures guys... My problem is that I have to catch fish that are worth taking pictures of... or do some major touch up in Photoshop ... Might be easier... LOL
