lungdeflator
Any body ever done it? I have been there alot in the summer months but have always wanted to go in the winter. I dont think they allow power augers, but if one went up during early ice a hand auger wouldnt be a problem.
prov1900
How would you get there?
LMFlyin
Very valid question. Dog Sled team would work I guess? Make for a true wilderness adventure.
prov1900
Imagine how unpressured some of those lakes must be. Dogs or your own skis would be the only way as far as I know. It would be awesome.
Cheers
The best way is in the spring when the snow is off the lake, you can walk and pull a small sleigh at night when the temps are below freezing and fish during the day or use a mountain bike
Jackpine Rob
The mountain bike would be illegal when you are going through the BWCA. It is a mechanized device, and forbidden under the current rules.Sam Cook has written articles the last couple of winters in the Duluth paper about fishing for lake trout in Quetico. They enter from the north end (out of Atikokan) and ski in to where they camp. There are a few hardy souls who venture into Quetico after winter trout, but a number of them have now given up on Quetico for any fishing. Since the no organic bait and barbless rules went into effect, as well as the 1 trout per day limit, as well as the costs of the RABC and license and permit fees, as well as the regular plane patrols by the MNR, fishing in Quetico has become an expensive hassle. For the first time in many years, I didn't bother to renew my RABC. I'm done with Quetico fishing.
