carpmanjake
i have a nature vision jig-up tip-up. (it jigs the bait by itself) but i have been having problems with it. the inside keeps freezing up so it wont jig, and wont allow the post to spin when a fish hits. i havent got a chance to fish it almost at all in the past 2 years since i got it because of that problem. and i really want to use it this year. any tips on how to stop this from happening? 0 carpmanjake
BTW, those are illegal in minnesota. they are considered a hook setting device. it doesnt set the hook so it should be legal. and if it is illegal then the windlass should be illegal too. since it is basically the same exept it is run by windill email the DNR and ask
0 Sonicrunch
BTW, those are illegal in minnesota. they are considered a hook setting device. There is no wy for that thing to set the hook. The line is free-spooling.
0 jimmy4218
I got one for my birthday a couple of years ago and the housing where the motor is split in two and broke an hour into using it. JMHO.
0 broman
Buy some of that Frabill Sub-Zero grease. That might help.
0 CJH
I was going to say get some good sub-zero lube. Maybe try the Quantum hot sauce or other lighter lubes?
0 carpmanjake
BTW, those are illegal in minnesota. they are considered a hook setting device. i emailed the dnr. linda erickson- Eastwood repliedhere is the reply"Thank you for your question. From what I and my contact in enforcementcan tell, the device does not have a spring device or a way that wouldautomatically set the hook. While it is in a grey area, we would say that it would be legal to use them in Minnesota."it does not have a spring or anything to set the hook. so its legal
0 NyQuiLlama
I have two of them and have caught fish on them. To fix/avoid the problem with the housing splitting... give the top of the housing a few wraps of electrical tape. Clean as much of the vaseline-type grease that comes on the tip-up off and replace it with quantum hot sauce. That helped with freeze-ups, but if it's a really cold day I'd avoid them all togther because the batteries won't work anyway. All in all they only jig about 3 inches up and down without pause. I used a small swedish pimple with a crappie minnow and caught a couple of walleyes. Meanwhile I was also catching walleyes on conventional tip-ups with plain hooks and shiners. So go figure. I'm glad I got them as a gift as they take up a lot of space, are fragile, and are not deigned out of box for actual ice fishing.
