Charcoal Grill??

Probably not a good idea to leave it on the lake. What little I have read about it as far as using it as a soil ammendment for pot ash is that there is a concern about the other chemicals added to it. I haven't seen what they are exactly but I have read a few forms on other web sites talking about it in conjunction with gardening.

With all of that said, I have typically dumped mine and spread it out in the yard or in the woods crazy. I am big on trying to reduce the amount of material I put into the garbage (and into landfills) if I can.

Go with natural lump charcoal if you want to reduce chemicals. That being said, it will be tough for lump on the ice as you need to bring a chimney starter to do it right. I would second Haf's suggestion and say bring a small coleman camp stove. Easier and faster for ya. We do it all the time.

We bring the Weber along all the time never had any issues. In fact it will be in tow for this upcoming weekends trip to URL. I guess if you end up with a excessive amount of ashes you could bring along a metal can to place them in until you get home.

I also bring my Weber. The coals burn down quite fast esp if there's a wind, then I either close all the vents and load it upright in the truck with a bunge holding on the lid. OR, if I'm gonna use it a couple times, I'll bring a 5 gal. metal can and dump the ashes into that for transport home. Phred52

I thank you all for your responses, whatever i do i'll keep the ashes off the lake.

I have a wood stove in my perm for heat... So I actually have an old giant metal mail box that I keep the ash from that in... And then I also put the ash from my weber in there. (Kind of nice because once I get done grilling I put the half burned charcoal in the wood stove!)

If you're looking for a natural way to handle it... Lump will be your best option... But heat control, especially in the MN winter is tougher with lump... So I use a mix of 66% Lump and 33% briquettes...

I start it with crumpled newspaper that has been impregnated with 2-3 tablespoons of vegetable oil.

Then just put the left over ash in an old coffee can.
