The_King48
I have a ford diesel and the block heater isn't working.... I plugged it in on thrusday night and friday I went to start it and I had to cycle the glow plugs 3 or 4 times to get her to start. Then my "check engine" light came on??? Is there a fuse, or something else simular to check???? I know I have power to the plug since it has a lighted end. Also does it hurt anything to have the vehicle plugged in while running??? Scott K
Look at the plug on the truck, bend it side to side see if the plug in is broken from the wires. It wont hurt to leave it plugged in when running, but it wont help much either.
Jeremy airjer W
There are no fuses on the vehicle. It works completely off of your household wiring. Make sure you have power at the outlet and check for broken wires at the plug in as well as corrosion on the terminals. It is possible that the block heater can be fixed with just a new cord. putter
dont leave it plugged in while running if there is any air in the system it will cavitate around it and will burn it out system works just like your water heater in your house
Macgyver55
More times than not, when the block heaters on our company vehicles don't work it is a problem with the plug. Either it has moisture and corrosion in it, or it has worn through or broken a wire from flopping in the wind.

ChuckN
What Macgyver said, is exactly what happened to my Ford diesel block heater. There was no visible damage from the outside, it was internal damage...wires pulled apart from the plug internally. Got a new plug, wired it up and good to go. A $2 fix.
