Slush on lakes has made it tough to get around. Accesses are still good as of today.

Friend of mine fished the stumps of Balsam and has done fairly good. Lots of fish and sorting. He came on the access of Forest Road (off "I") and said the main trail out there was passable...but get off it and you can get stuck. Warm weather today should have dropped snot even further. I just called my friend as the info he gave me was from Saturday...he didnt go today.

Other reports from my fishing friends say fishing for them tapered off from what was considered a pretty good bite last week.

That always scares me when they shut down like that as there may be reason for concern about some lakes freezing out this year.

Oh, my friend did say he saw 4 wheelers getting around Saturday, but if it softened too much today there could be a problem.

Its March....it will get cold and refreeze everything...it usually does.

Dan

Deer Lake is well known to have vehicles drop through...springs off the landing and out further. This happens every year.

We were on Balsam today and drove right out....no problem...some water on the ice.

TOday was the toughest fishing we have had this week....real fussy biters. What we caught were especially nice.

Was going to hit Balsam Saturday but with this last "batch" of snow driving out might be a little questionable....course I am a "chicken" earlier than most. Seems when my stepbrother dropped his truck through on Clam Lake by Siren about 3 years ago, I get the "heebie-jeebies" when I see nothing but water to drive through.

Thursday, they started walking out on Balsam by the stumps where they do every year. Some guys only fished and hour cuz it was real slow. We got there early (like 6:45) and hit some right away, then the search was on. Lots of "little fellars" but occasionally a "dandy". We had two that went 13 oz.

Yeah, I fish every chance I get. Heading up to Lake of the Woods for a full week. We're leaving 2 weeks from Monday on the 22nd. Hopefully the snow and/or water and slush aren't two bad up there at that time.
I haven't been doing much fishing around here as of late. Hit early ice pretty hard and picked up some walleyes here and there. I'm getting ready to bring out the light tackle and hit some crappies and bluegills just before ice out.
Good to hear from you. Last I heard, you living over towards Bloomer. Are you over that way? You'll have to come visit us over at Krooked this year. You know they do give us a free pass or two with our memberships.
Dooner just went to S. Carolina a few weeks back with Needle, Frank (from the dry cleaners), and Dan Lewis to play some golf.
I've still got the fishing itch, so I'll keep plugging away till the ice melts, then wash off the clubs and get ready for that.
Drop me a line at [email protected] and let me know when you're heading this way with your rods or clubs.

Great to hear from you - Hammer

Ellsworth...we bumped into a guy that came and talked to us on Balsam last Wednesday morning....could have been you. Do you have a white pickup? Anyway, Wednesday there were three or four vehicles that drove on Forest Point road.....I make no statements as to the safety as we took my four wheeler out.

Fihsing was somewhat slow but of course it was so darn windy I actually borrowed two sinkers from another fisherman.....I never ever use sinkers.

If you don't have a four wheeler or dont want to drive out, come in off the north side and walk on where everyone walks on in a few weeks.

Was on Long Lake by Centuria last Sunday and got stuck with my ATV.

There are fisherman on Big Round, but they are walking out of Indian Bay landing. We took 4 wheelers from the West Landing...hit some slush and got stuck once....maybe this cold weather firmed things up although the slush is protected.

Anyone been to Balsam lately? Just curious about the ice conditions, especially whwere you drive on over on the east side. ( I think it's off Forest road). Thanks for any help.

I don't have a white pickup but there are others from town here who go up there as well. The last couple years I would park at the Paradise supper club and walk out from there. Do you know if that's a possibility yet or is there some new construction going on? Thanks for your help. I have a dark blue F150 with a topper and packer license plates.

There's constrution going on there I'm not sure if you can park there and go threw, and that hill off Forest rd. will be getting muddy here with the warm weather thats coming. But you can always walk out there or atvs. It looks bad right where you come on the lake. Be careful and good luck.
