fasternu
What is the difference between a marine starting battery and a regular car battery? If a person had a new car battery sitting around unused, would it be possible to interchange them? Thanks in advance.
marine_man
There's no reason you couldn't, especially if you don't have a direct injection or fuel injected motor.marine_man
vermilionfox
Marine man,Why not with a direct injection or fuel injected motor?
dan z
I would still go with a dual purpose deep cycle, car batteries dont have big enough reserves for all the recharging that goes with boat batteries...
marine_man
Let me rephrase that slightly...If you have Direct or Fuel Injected motors, don't cheap out on a boat or automotive battery... at least 1000 Cranking Amps (not CCA, just regular cranking amps). The higher current draw required on these motors eats small batteries for lunch pretty quickly. The other difference between marine and automotive batteries is that marine batteries have the bottom of the plates epoxied in to resist vibration inherent to boats.marine_man
boatfixer
Good simple explanation. Auto batteries just arn't built as well.
