buzbunni
So I hear this clunking sound the other day....... Turns out I have a broken leaf spring on the rear drivers side of the truck. It's the 3rd leaf down from the top, and I'm hearing it and the back "bracket" bump and slide back and forth when I stop or hit bumps. Of course I have to have it repaired, but I'm wondering as to the urgency of the repair? I have a few jobs lined up through this week that I would like wrap up, and after that I can schedule the repair. I can do the repairs immediately if necessary, but I'd like to wait if possible. I live in the metro, and so all driving will be on city streets. Is this a repair that my trusty local mechanic can do, or do I need to take this to a dealer? Anything else I should have them replace while they are under there? Obviously I'm no mechanic . Thanks all..... (funny, I thought the truck looked a tad "tilty" as it sat in the garage last week
rundrave
i believe there is a TSB for this if you go to a site called Tundra Solutions you will find all the infoyour out of warranty etc, but the dealer may work with you, its at least worth a try
dougger222
Have had a few leafs break on the super duty's. When I mean broke I mean several broken leafs for many miles due to massive loads in the beds, huge burn outs, and huge trailer loads. What my mechanic told me could have happened with the DRW was that the last couple good leafs could have broke and punctured the tire(s).Both trucks got new leafs and air bags. Jeremy airjer W
I knew the Tacomas had issues but not the Tundras? As far as driving it goes a couple of days or weeks or months won't hurt anything. I would bet that it has been broke for a long time already and it was finally noticed because it started making noise.
buzbunni
Thanks for the advice everybody. From the info I gathered, the Tacoma's definitely had problems with the leaf springs...not so much the Tundra's. I purchased the truck used, and I knew it was worked pretty hard in its previous life (fireroads, trailering, etc.), so the breakage isn't surprising in that regard.I'm gonna drive it as is for a couple of weeks until I have the dough to pay for the repair.
