Bryce
Anyone found a cure for the crackling noise that comes from the base of the windshield. Been in many GM's that have it. Personal vehicle has always been worse than my company vehicle and is much worse now that I shattered my bud deflector.
Hafnutz
Noise could be from the ends of the plastic cover on the cowl between the hood and the windshield. Mine were cracked and loose. I drilled a hole and ran a sheetmetal screw in to tighten them.
Valv
My Dodge had same problem WITH the deflector. It is the plastic cover between hood and windshield. As suggested above tighten it or find a way to secure it better.
LMITOUT
It's not the covers or flaps on the windshield cowl...the rubber trim around the windshield is what you hear flapping. A deflector/hood guard is typically the reason why the molding rattles. Some have used small pieces of double-sided tape to keep that trim/seal down on the windshield to stop the flapping. Hard617
On my 06 its the rubber flaps above the hood hinges that are flapping. next time you are driving, take a look at those, I bet its your problem. I havent fixed it yet, but will take a look closer soon to see what I can come up with.
LMITOUT
Take a strip of tape and tape down the windshield molding. Take a drive at highway speed or whatever speed it takes to recreate the noise and I bet it'll stop. It's not those little rubber flaps on the cowl above the hinges. Many, many owners have experienced this windshield molding flapping over the years.
JeffB
I had the same problem with mine. The solution was very simple and completely fixed the problem. Remove bug deflecor and place said bug deflecor in dumpster. Seriously I did the tape thing and it helped for a little while, but I couldn't get it completly quiet so I just threw the bug deflector away and was perfectly happy once I accepted I wasted 100 bucks. Hookmaster
I had my windshield replaced last fall and the guy asked if I heard a noise on the highway. I said not anymore but I did when it was newer (it's a 2004 Silverado Crew Cab Z71). He said it was the rubber trim on the windshield. The noise I had was like a lot of bugs were hitting the windshield. I did see the rubber flap above the hood hinges on the driver side moving when it happened so on my truck it was that. They only do it now when a strong wind is coming from a certain direction.
