goose island or stoddard

Recommended Posts

The panfish bite at Stoddard started out very good in Dec, but has been really slow the last couple of weeks.Goose Island has been producing some fish from what I have heard. South of the Island at Shady Maple has had tip up fisherman taking northern with a few panfish mixed in. After being skunked yesterday I had made up my mind to stay home get some things done around the house today and watch football.( GO GREENBAY!!) But after making this post and thinking maybe today the bite will be better, I should hit the ice for a few hours anyway. Good luck if you give it a try.

Canvasback, I went to goose this morning and caught alot of fish but nothing big. Glad you had luck at stoddard, the bite was really tough yesterday. Just one of those times when you shouldn't have been here yesterday. When the bite is on out there you can get some big gills.

Most of the fishing I do at Goose is early in the year when you can have space to yourself. First ice is always the best and it tends to keep the crowds in check. The backwaters to the south of the island are accessable from the main road leading in to the park, you had to see the parking area as you drove in. It's on the left about half way to the park. You can walk back in from there or go all the way to the stop sign and take a left. That will take you to the south boat landing, access to the back waters is on the left just before you get to the landing. Both paths lead to the same basic area and the is alot of water to fish. Most of it is very shallow 2'-5'. Fishing by the tubes is an option but usually is busy since it's so close to the road. Stoddard has been getting alot of attention the last couple of years. This year has been crazy with the amount of people fishing it. I always am as far away from the crowd as I can get. I just don't like fishing in a pack, never have and never will. Theres alot of water out the and most of it holds fish just have to get out there and look for them. What was the depth you were fishing at Stoddard?

we were fishing like 4 ft and as you go south we stopped at the first stop where you walk down the stairs through the little boat houses, there was like 7 guys there but slowly dispersed( because they got there limits and the packers game) i also hate crowds but i have never been there b-4 and we didnt have alot of time so we crowd fished this time and for once it was actually sucessful, but anyway yea like 4ft.

Cavasback, I know where your talking about I fish south from there most of the time. The whole area is mostly stump fields, very shallow with acouple channels running thru it. Iv'e been fishing in 6' of water. I am convinced if you look for water over 3' you'll find fish anywhere out there. The corp of engineers put in the rock dam and islands out there to replace the natural islands that used to be there but washed out due to flooding. Their main reason was to create waterfoul habitat with the benefit to the fisheries a pleasant plus. I'll hit it again this weekend, hope this cold front moving in doesn't shut them down again.
