Lakemaster Chip

Caleb S

Question

I know someone who is selling a chip that I am interested in. I am wondering if there is only one version of the MN Lakemaster chip out there our not, ie: did they have an original and then came out with an updated/better chip?

Several versions out there. Find out which year (version) it is, and if the lake(s) you primarily fish are one's that have been surveyed by LM (1' or 3' contours), go for it.

Many of the lakes are just the old DNR makes (not too accurate). But if they've been surveyed by LM and are listed on there site in blue or red (I believe)they've been surveyed and are pretty accurate. New versions, each year, are usually the previous years chip with a few more "surveyed" lakes added. The original may be as good to you as the latest version, depending on which lake(s) you want to fish. Good Luck.

I was just thinking about this and looking. My brother-in-law just purchased a new chip. we were comparing the two. I recieved my chip in 2007 christmas.

His chip has more detail on the lakes.

For example:

my chip would go from 18 feet to 15 feet in some areas. and his chip would go from 18',17',16',15'.

so I thought that was pretty cool that they were more updated from last year to this year. So there are some spots that I was looking at that are a steeper drop off than I thought.

So I might try and upgrade my chip.

I talked to the guys at Lakemaster at the ice show.

Lowrance controls the data, not Lakemaster, LM would love to be able to offer an upgradeable chip for a lesser price but lowrance won't let them.

So no you can't upgrade your chip, unless you like wiping alll of the data.
