Looking for a family type resort

Recommended Posts

Looking to find a reasonably priced family type resort to take my dad and 7 year old son to before he meets up with his maker. It will definately be his last fishing trip, and I want to make it a memorable one for him. 3 generations to do what Grandpa loves to do most - fish for slimers!

I'm looking at the week of June 15th.

He loves to fish for Pike, but has never caught a large (30"+) one.

I can bring my own boat (16') or rent one there. Distance is a concern as anything over 400 miles will have to be split into a 2 day drive. We would be traveling from Brainerd (Central) Minnesota.

My mom and dad have always done so much for my brother and sisters and my family, that I want him to enjoy one last trip with an opportunity to catch a "big" one. While he has always talked about going to Canada, he's never been there, so this would make the trip of a lifetime for him.

Any flying is not an option.

bobncay,

I have been going to Mylie's Resort in Morson Ontario on Lake of the Woods for ten years now. This is a very clean, reasonable family friendly resort. The family that runs it has always been very customer service focused. I've caught several 30" plus Northerns in the water around there and I never fish Northerns, as I concentrate on Walleyes and Smallies. This area of the lake is made up of lots of islands and bays so, usually, you can get around fine in a 16' boat, if you are a good boat handler. If you are a novice (as we all once were) boat handler then it would not be a good idea. You should be able to find lots of Northern structure within a few miles of the camp. They are 320 miles from my driveway in Ham Lake, MN so the trip for you would certainly be less than 300 miles. Let me know if I can be of more help.

Hi Bobncay,

Welcome to fishing minnesota. I own a couple of resorts just 1hr. north of the border, so well within your range of driving. We have good rates, we fish Northern Pike, Muskie, Smallmouth, and Lake Trout. If you would like some more info e-mail me or give me a call.

Good Luck on your search.

Outfitter has a real good resort on the Manitou for what you are looking for. If you would be interested in a good fly in outpost that has the fishing you are looking for, shoot me an email. I have a cancellation trip that may be of interest to you and fit your budget.

Thanks Matt - I'll give you a holler this weekend if that works for you.

No offense Superbee, but like I said, flying is not an option for Dad. I would do that in a heartbeat if I thought he could.

Thanks all.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
