Eskimo auger problems

Recommended Posts

I have a four year old Eskimo 49cc gas auger. Never had a recoil problem. I have found that it EATS GAS LINES THOUGH !

FYI: replace your skinny little fuel lines once a year- you can buy a foot of gas hose for like a buck. Replace the main line and the little one on the primer-- they get a little ill fitting, stiff, and slurp air around the fittings. Gets me everytime.

Jiffy and Strike make the best augers, Eskimo is 3rd. And that is from a guy who owns an Eskimo....

Much to be said for StrikeMaster, they are right here in Minn. near Big Lake. You can walk in and talk to them. I recall calling Eskimo from the 7 Mile Flats of Mille Lacs to quiz them on WHY MY ESKIMO WOULD NOT START... they were no help.

I took mine to a small engine shop near I-35 and Hwy 96. A hardware store... starts with a "B". My auger has never ran so good-- not even when new. Turns out lots of these augers are never really "dialed in" even when they come off the line. Have a tech check out your auger, a small engine guy that knows augers worth his weight in walleyes!

Dead C Force, maybe the newer ones have better gas lines. I hope anyway. There not cheap to buy. We do have a good repair guy in our town that used to work on our old auger. We've just had problems with the recoil breaking so far.

My brother lives in Rogers Mn. too. Nice area.

I think part of that is because the gas has 10% ethanol in it.

I just bought a new Yamaha Quad, the dealer told me to make sure i do not but any gas that has ethanol in it. It will eat the gas lines. He also went on to say don't ever put heet in it either cause it too is alcohol based and will eat the gas lines

I had a stingray several years ago and I also had broken recoils before returning it. Customer service was great but after replacing 3 shattered recoil spools in a month, back she went to the store.

I haven't had any problems like this with my jiffy.

Call Eskimo and talk to a tech named John he's the best with all engines. Make sure you have all info when you call and tell him all the problems. He helped me with a stingray. I was so impressed I brought another mako and yes my recoil broke when my wife who was a cub scout leader and myself were hosting a ice fishing day for the cub scouts. one call and it was taken care of and has working great ever since. I've also picked up parts in Cumberland WI. which saved me a lot of time.

I think my problem may have just old gas. It has not had a noticable leak at all this week. I have put probably three tanks of gas through it in the past week and a half. too bad i have to join the working world on monday. where i did notice the leak was somewhere between the main body of the carb and the cylinder. don't know where or why, but it stopped, i think. pretty sure it is the mako. it is the 43cc engine.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
