Battery for lights?

Currently i have one set up rope lights in my protable and have them hooked up to a extra vex battery. I am looking to get another rope of lights for the other side of the portable to hang. With both sets of lights and only one vex battery is my guess it would drain really quick. What im wanting to know is what kind of battery would work best to light up both set of lights. I was thinking of a old deep cycle battery from my dads boat. Thing is i dont kno if that is to much juice for those lights or not without blowing out the lights.

Any info would be great. I just dont want to run out of light while im out at night.

Thanks

I actually have a switch box I got that's for a boat. I connected the battery to that first. Then I run a switch to each set of lights, one switch to the fan, one switch to the storage bins (put amber trailor lights in those) and have one free. A lot of times you don't need all the lights on and you can save energy this way.
