Can't add new anti-virus to computer

LwnmwnMan2

Question

My computer has been attacked.

I HAD Norton 360, which I was completely blocked out on, so I uninstalled it.

I then downloaded AVG 8.0, but my wife ended up buying me Kaspersky Internet's something or other as well.

Now when I try to install the Kaspersky program, it keeps saying that AVG 8 is not compatible, and that I have to remove it.

I've tried removing AVG 8, done many searches for "AVG" in all folders including hidden folders, restarted many times, and it still comes back as having AVG 8 on the computer and cannot install the new one.

I'm stuck.

jimalm, Thank you so much for posting that link. It's a great help for a cyber novice like myself. What is the best way to utilize this tool? 1DIRTBALL

If you have your PC set to automatically receive updates, it runs once per month.

If you want to run it standalone/more often, follow the instructions found in that link jimalm provided.

Many times if you uninstall software it will leave traces in the registry. Not impossible to find and remove, but time consuming and you can mess up your PC big time if you screw up.

I did quick search on the web and there are tools to remove that kind of stuff, but can't post those kind of links.
