10" Sandcat- another great bait

What kind of action do you get from your sandcat? Does it back straight back or does it turn sideways as it backs up? I have an older sandcat that turns sideways as it backs up. Not all bad, but not the best for working through heavy weeds.

For whatever it's worth my favorite jerkbaits are wade's wobbler, a custom weighted bobbie (add 4x hooks for extra weight), a viper with a screw in weight (has a reef hawg action) and a 6" reef hawg.

both i guess. never really thought about which one it does more of. i think it probly depends on the leader weight and/or line tension. it's done almost a 360 too, lol. little trick. 2 oz. weight 2 - 2 1/2 feet ahead of it and bounch it slow over the sand....

hence the ...sand cat.

All I use is a $30 gander mountain "competitor graphite series" in MH power thats 7ft, with an abu c3 6500 and don't know what more I'd want out of it.

Nothing wrong with that set up at all, and nothing it can't do. As with anything else, you get what you pay for. I'll admit I have a custom built rod specifically for jerkbaits, but that's because I could financially at the time (not now! grin) and because I fish a fair amount of time to justify the added benefits and comforts. The rod is lighter, longer, strong but still has enough of a tip action to help keep a fish hooked up.

It's like if I drove a brand new Cadillac SUV and compared it to my 5 year old Tahoe, of course I'd want the Cadillac but my Tahoe does everything I need it to, just a few less creature comforts.

IMO, you get what you pay for. I have some cheaper jerkbait rods and general fishing/muskie rods from gander and the $100 shimano's from thorne, they just sit in the garage these days.

When fishing big baits for an 8-10 hour day, it's more than worth it to have a better/lighter setup, it takes the strain off those long days. A rod that aids in casting etc doesn't kill you by noon on a long day. In some ways I agree with cjac, but it's about more than just creature comforts.
