1992 Evinrude 40 HP VRO/Timing??

Thanks for the help. It seems kinda wimpy to just glue the timing magnet inside the flywheel. But I guess it was a pretty easy fix once we found it.

Big thanks to my friend from work that had all the right tools last night. And to DTRO and Fisherdave for their assistance.

Here's a new twist to the story. Boilerguy are you listening???

So after WWG got this motor purring like a kitty, out of nowhere the motor dropped spark on a cylinder. Pulled flywheel again, rerouted wiring and after a few days of head scratching got the motor purring like a kitty again.

So off we go fishing this morning.

Fire motor up at the launch and out of nowhere backfires and dies.

Crank and crank and crank some more....nothing. Not even a pop.

Check spark, yep on both cylinders. Fuel? Yep, lots of it.

Crank some more.....nothing.

Check flywheel and TDC. 90 degrees off shocked

So we put the boat back on the trailer and just by chance stop by the Tires Plus in Woodbury and kindly ask if they could spare a few moments to pull the flywheel for us. They said sure no problem (that was really cool of them and a nice gesture).

So we get the flywheel off and guess what? The woodruff key is sheared grin

So this story has now come full circle.

I'm happy to report we found a new key at Northern Tool for 40 cents and we were back on the water in an hour.

Thanks again to Woodbury Tires Plus

Good news is I am learning more and more every day.

I guess the moral of story is not to try to take things apart or put them back together without the proper tools. If I would put the flywheel nut on a bit tighter (impact wrench).....it wouldn't have happened.
