how much thatch is too much?

earlier this year, I rented a vertical mower and pulled quite literally over 2000# of thatch out of my yard. that being said, there _still_ is a prominent thatch layer, would it be advisable to rent the vertical mower again and strip more out before fall over seeding?

YOu shouldn't have more than an inch for sure. 1/2 inch is acceptable.

How are you determining the depth of your thatch layer? What does it look like?

if it is thatch, and you want more out, and plan to overseed, i would sugest doing a core aerification to the lawn before overseeding. That way you remove some thatch, reduce compaction, allow air and water to the roots, and allow more seed to soil contact when seeding.
