duck2
I am wanting to build a small, lightweight 4'x8' ice house. For simplicity's sake, I would like to be able to use a 4'x8' sheet of treated and painted plywood for a roof. Am I inviting disaster by not going with a sloped roof? Scott K
Yes! Been there done that! It will last a couple seasons, if stored indoors in the off season. But if you are just looking to go as cheap and light as possible, for a temp shelter it did work.
bradyd
You should be fine going with a flat roof. We have 3 4'x8' fish houses and when we leave them on the lake until the next weekend we usually just put blocking under one side.
hawkeye43
Think about it, a 4x8 will just fine. very little snow will ever be on it for the load factor. You will be moving the around and the lake is never flat that the snow that does melt won't run off. I have a 8x17 with a flat rubber and never had any probloms ever, thats my 3rd house like that. fishinmajishin
Put some ice/water shield over the roof rather than just painting it. Block up one edge in the offseason.
