Hiya -

Polar's got it - it's a bait clicker. Only on 6500-size and above Abus. On 7000s, it's on the side plate opposite the handle.

Handy if you troll with it (wakes you up when a fish hits if you happen to take a snooze while someone else drives...) or fish live bait. Also very useful when you want to test the patience of a fishing partner. Flip it on and start casting, then see how long it takes them to react... \:\)

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

I just saw RK's post and was going to delete this but maybe its still worth posting.

I have a green 5600 C5. The switch on mine is the magnetic brake (backlash reducer). If it doesn't just have an "on" and "off" postion but slides with several numbers 1-10 it is the magnetic deal. Its in a bad spot as it will move constantly if you palm the reel. I spoke with the ABU guy at the expo and he said they did away with that model for that reason. They don't even have it on their websight anymore. The reel is fine and smooth, but if I did it again I'd go with a C3. The gear ratio is the same. I don't think the anti-backlash deal offers a whole lot performance wise, especially when casting big muskie baits. That said if you got a good deal on it, the reel will work just fine.

Ahh... I missed the C5 part. My bad. Yeah, that's a magnetic control. I dunno much about the C5s - never owned one.

D4,

That's the Green one, right? I had one, and it helped a lot early on in my muskie learning curve with getting used to casting the 1-3oz muskie baits and "casting them like you mean it", and not lobbing them out there in fear of a backlash. Not the easiest thing to get used to if you're used to 3/8oz baits.

Depending on your baitcaster skill level, it can help, especiallly in windy conditions. A Suick casts a lot differently with a little wind in your face, that magnetic anti-backlash will help in situations like that.

Only caution is it can move depending on how you hold the rod/reel with your left hand. Just check it once in a while and you're good to go.....
