some time ago someone somewhere posted an idea about using all these mail labels for an id label on fishing rods. they said to put them on the handle and use clear plastic tape. does anyone have any input as to what type/brand of tape to use and how long would it last? would this 3m plastic you use on the windows in winter work with the hair dryer? has anyone tried it?

I use those little stickies that Trilene uses to stick the end of the line in their Fireline packages. I just cut it in half and write what line test I got on it, then stick it onto the reel.

I just use a finepoint sharpie to write the line info on the inside of the spool (spinning gear) or in an inconspicious spot on casting gear. Just wipe off with alcohol when you change line.

This might be a great question for the rod building forum. Maybe a person could put that on and then apply some of the clear epoxy to keep it visable and it would become a permenant part of the rod.

Glen try Clear duct tape by 3M stuffs good!Menards has it bout 6-8$$ a roll but well worth it for your purpose

glen. i was the one that posted it originally as a tip i read in Bass Masters, i haven't tried the tape as of yet, but did try a clear nail polish sealer over it. it worked ok, other than i did notice that one end had turned up some . hopefully we will get other ideas! del

I tried nail polish once for tying a flyrod,real pretty but the 2nd year it cracked and peeled off.Clear expoxy will be my next attempt for eyelets winding.

did you put it on the rod itself or handle. my guess would be to put it on the handle.

i put it on the rod balnk , just in front of the handle. i like the suggestion to use rod sealant/coating over it. need to get some!

looks like i have another project on my to do list. where does a guy get this rod sealant?

don't know yet.( but i have a buddy that builds custom rods,so i plan to get some from him!) if you post in the rod building forum i bet they can tell you. del
