I ran hot water out of the spicot on the bottom of my water heater. When I shut the spicot off, it continued to drip, so I went and bought a brass cap. The threads on the spicot are kind of coroded and it continued to drip after I capped it. I tried wrapping the threads with silicone tape, but it continues to drip about a gallon every 12 hours. Tired of emptying the bucket.

Any ideas?

First try hooking it to a hose run the hose outside, turn the gas or elec off. open it wide open and close slowly, this may rinse off stuff stuck on the washer, close and see if it leaks. If it does a new washer or a new bib I think some newer bibs dont come apart for washers. While you have the hose connected you might as well flush the unit.

some time you can break off a piece of the washer and when you try to close it , it will leak where the piece of washer came off If you replace the fixture buy one with a replaceable washer and when you close it do not turn it to tight.
