Impeller replacement

Is there a past link with any pics of the steps to replace an impeller? Is it necessary to drain the lower gear lube prior to replacement?

What type motor do you have? I just got done doing mine like 20 minutes ago. You shouldn't have to drain the oil.

It is a Mercury 125HP. Did you shift the motor into gear prior to dropping the lower unit?

Mines a Johnson. I can't see them being very different, tho.

I kept mine in neutral. I'm not too familiar with the Merc's tho, sorry.

No need to drain oil. The main reason to put in gear is when you are reinstalling the case, if you need to rotate the shaft to align it with the splines in the bottom of the crankshaft, it is much easier to do so by rotating the prop (which won't rotate the drive shaft if it is neutral) Just remember to leave in gear during the process.
