9 FT MH GlowStick Spinning Rod For Flatheads

Is that good? I know it's a medium-heavy, but at the store it felt pretty stiff, and I know how to use drag to fight a fish. Has anyone had experience with these rods, that model or not? I'm thinking of pairing it with a Daiwa Theory 4000 size (holds 200 or 300 yards of 10 lb mono, I forget which, but I'd use PP on it), would that be a good match? Anyone had any experience with those reels? Thanks for the info guys!

The rod will be fine. I have a 9' MH Reflex (Berkley's precurser to the Glowstick). A bit long for what I prefer out of a boat but you'll be able to make some rocket long casts from shore with it too.

I really can't comment on the reel, I don't have much experience with Daiwa's.

Tyler, would you reccomend the 8? I chose the 9 because it was the heaviest one they had, and the 8 was a little lighter. Still enough to handle a big flattie though?

I caught the fish in my avatar on the 8' MH Glowstick. It handled it just fine.

Length is more of a personal preference thing. Fishing from my boat, I don't like to have to keep looking up 9+' to watch my rod tip. From shore, it might help as casting distance will be increased plus you secure your rod at ground level so your not looking into the stars to watch your tip.

The tip on the 9'er "might" be a little softer which helps to watch your bullhead activity and also the occasional "slow run towards you" flathead bite.

I almost always fish from my boat, so I went with the 8'er.

I have a couple of 9' King Kat's- since I do about 3/4 of my fishing from shore, the extra foot makes for better distance casting.

From the boat, just takes a bit of extra dillgence where the rod tip goes.
