I still like to use the mono as a filler though.

So that was what that little stud was for?

Good to know!

Thanks Dtro.

See, you always learn new good stuff, year after year.

I'm still a bit suprised no one else has chimed in on the Cortland Bronzeback Superline, I've tried 'em all on my muskie rigs and the Cortland is emerging as the best overall braid for me, and others too. Strength, knot-tying, abrasion resistance, spooling....

Guess I'll have to hit a river bank and see if I can't sway anyone else towards the Cortland.......

The day that a fish comes even remotely close to spooling you with the gear your using.........

Will be the day you pull in a massive state record or close to. (It probably won't happen... but I won't say it never will)

I used to think the same lines as you when I first got into big cats....

You will see that even with the Big Hogs.... your able to control the situation as your experience grows....

We all dream of tapping into the monster that can't be turned.... but I've never seen it and I've seen a lot of big fish pulled in.

Not to say that it doesn't happen... I think it happens with gear that is way under matched/classed for the target your seeking.

We all say better to err on the side of caution so the big one doesn't get away...

But this......... I almost guarantee, that down the road if you keep up with this sport you will want to keep the game on a sporting playing field... If the big one has the brass to spool you and get away....... It will keep you coming back for life...

and Of course... it will break your balls and heart.....LOL ;\)

Funny thing is that I'm pretty sure I've seen LFC nearly get "spooled".

It was on his "lucky" rod though ;\)

I seem to remember fishing with hanson one evening and I almost watched all my power pro dissapear in a very short period of time on a hit/run!

I buy Trilene Big Game in 15# or 20# test for backing from wally-world... $7 for 1/2 pound spool, the line is very strong and I do have confidence when I hit the backing.

We do a lot of shore fishing in areas where we make very long cast. Once you have a spool of line for a while and lose a little line, sometimes you cast into the backing and you must have some faith in it just to not break when your casting alone(7" bully and 4oz weight shows no mercy).

This year I am going to be switching more of my rigs back to mono.. i really became addicted to my black light last year and I must admit its really cool getting a hard strike with glowing line.
